As you see, the oil price affects the automotive industry past and present era. Big crisis and historical issues made much change in the market and opportunities for new makers. American big 3 yielded the market to Japanese makers in 1970s,
We are hard to see large size cars and engines less than 50years. But in 5 years ago, shale gas made oil prices lower like before 50 years. Russia, Venezuela, and OPEC got damage. Some countries are still having problems because of this. At that time we could see that the car maker didn't try their best to develop EV.
No one needs, No one cares.
Technical revolution or Technical new trial to break traditional order
We used to look at the technical revolution to destroy the traditional market order and create a new market. Cell phone market, walkman, and now, the automotive market is the one I think.
A lot of EV startups challenge traditional automotive car makers. A vehicle is no longer a mechanical machine but an electric device. The paradigm is rapidly changed as other industries went through.
Battery and new energy
40% of price in the EV is the battery price. Car maker tries to reduce this expense and cost. If this trial is succeeded shortly, traditional car maker needs to discard their technical document about conventional powertrain perhaps. Or like a previous paragraph, a new source of power, Battery also doesn't need. As you know, Technology is not independent of needs and cost.
National power game
When we are watching the news, we can see the conflict between the USA and China. The USA has big petroleum companies, and China has a lot of EV vehicle makers and infrastructure makers. If they fight bigger than now, we don't know the future of industries that get many subsidies from countries. USA will make some cards to press China with the EV industry. If I am a skateboarder of USA policy authorities.

Global warming is one of big social issue in globe. What if CO2 is not the one that is not making global warming? Global temperatures is just periodic phenomenon like the history of earth? Ice era, warm ear then ice ear again.
